Firebird Estates is a planned 30-unit condominium community that was constructed in 1963, with sales beginning in 1964. With classic mid-century modern design, Firebird Estates epitomizes what Palm Springs community living is all about. Set on 5+ acres of landscaped garden and desert motifs. Low lying homes allow for unobstructed views of the mountains from practically every angle. With little modification since its construction, Firebird Estates was featured on the fall Modernism Week home tour in October, 2024, giving visitors a glimpse into the hidden gem that is this special community.

Firebird Estates was part of a 40 acre parcel that was purchased by Firebird Estates, Inc. by builder Sam Falzone of San Gabriel at the Southeast corner of Sunrise Way and Ramon Road.
Don R. Golden Associates were hired as the architectural design firm for the builder, designing both Firebird Estates and its sister complex Villa Riviera to the west several years later. In February of 1963, engineers began to create the lot of land that was to become the acreage for Firebird Estates.

In September of 1963 Firebird Estates began to tease in the press the concept of apartment desert living in new “open-room” planning with modern amenities - all for $26,500! A long list of features such as Wedgewood-Holly appliances, private outdoor spaces, front patios with sliding door access, ceramic tile bathrooms and central heating and cooling completed the picture of modern living.

In February of 1964, Firebird Estates began showcasing its model home to attract interested buyers of seasonal living in the desert.

In 1964, Palm Springs was developing quickly and various housing was available to attract buyers from Los Angeles and the vicinity to live in modern style apartments during the cooler months. Six months earlier, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway opened to the public.
